Rev. Bill Parnell

My name is Bill Parnell, Minister to Senior Adults, Older Singles, Missions Coordinator.  I am a local boy, graduating from Crescent High School 1973, Tri County Tec 1975, and Mars Hill College 1978.  I was summer Youth Director at my home church, FBC Iva, while in college.  After college I took a position as teacher/dorm parent at Patterson School, a private, college prep boarding school in Lenoir, NC.  I served there one year and returned back to Anderson to marry Janet Thomas, my high school sweetheart, on June 30, 1979.  At the end of that summer I began service at The Anderson Academy, a private Middle School here in Anderson.  That only lasted 1 year and I took a position at Anderson Cablevision, utilizing my Electronics degree from Tri County Tec. While there I was also the part time Youth Minister for Homeland Park Baptist.  It was during that time I felt the call to full-time ministry and took my wife and 2 children under 2 years of age to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX.  From there I served 5 years at FBC Canton, GA, as Minister to Youth, Children and Recreation.  New pastor/new staff landed us at Salem Baptist in Salem, VA.  After 2 years there we were asked to come back home to Anderson and New Prospect Baptist as Youth/Children Minister.  After 9 years we went to Honea Path and then back to Anderson and Concord Baptist.  I served 8 years as Youth Minister and took over the Senior Adults, Singles, Missions in the fall of 2001.  It was a long journey from Iva to Anderson, but one I will cherish the rest of my life.
