DEVOTIONS

Day 10: WHAT DOES PAVAROTTI HAVE TO DO WITH THE GREAT COMMANDMENT?

Andrew Barnes

READ MATTHEW 21-23

As I sit here writing this devotion I am listening to one of my favorite artists of all time, Luciano Pavarotti, who is in my personal opinion the greatest tenor ever to live. And I cannot get the last words of the piece Nessun Dorma, which is Vincero repeated three times.

Why do I bring him up at all? Well take a look at Matthew 22: 34-40. Is it clear yet? My guess is that it is not. Pavarotti put his entire life into his music.

What does Jesus say the greatest commandments should revolve around? They should revolve around first putting everything that we have into bringing glory, honor, and praise to God himself. Then we should love people well. Even more than that though Jesus goes on to say that the entire Old Testament, and really the Word of God, hangs on these commandments.

So...this is not one of those eloquent long devotions. Rather, I want to get right to the point. Is this what you would say your life is focused on. Bringing glory to God and loving people really, really, really well. Or would you say that you are a little more focused on football, basketball, music, cheerleading, video games, girls, boys, etc.?
