Summer Plan: Day 8

We are back! It has been a crazy start off to the week for us as VBS is in full swing and final preparations for camp are under way. If you know someone between the ages of kindergarten-5th grade and they are not here at out VBS or any VBS they can still come. Get them here tomorrow morning from 9 AM til 12 PM.

So, as we get into what we are reading today I want you to ask yourself what you know about Baal and Ashtoreth.

Go ahead and read todays reading 1 Samuel 6-7.

So, as you are reading these go back and read the words of Samuel in 1 Samuel 7:3-4. You see Samuel mention the Baals and Ashtoreths. He is speaking about the male and female gods and goddesses of the ancient near east that the Israelites has started worshiping along with Yahweh. Normally the primary ones were the Cananite supreme god El and his consort Asherah.

Much of the Old Testament deals with the Israelites turning from the Lord, serving other gods and godesses, repenting, putting away those idols, and turning fully and solely back to the Lord. Look at our own lives at this very moment. Do we have idols? Do we love our ipad? Do we love our iphone? Do we love our car? Do we love our boyfriend/girlfriend? Do we love our computer? Do we love our video games? Do we love our books? Do we love our popularity? ALL A LITTLE (OR A LOT) MORE THAN WE LOVE GOD.

STOP!!! I know what you want to do. I've been there, and I still go to that place. We want to rationalize it away. We want to straight deny it. We want to say, "No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No."  However, the true answer is, "YES!" like the Israelites. Call Out you idols. Then put them away, and put everything you have into the LORD.
