In The Shadow Of His Hands

We read in Scripture that Heaven doesn’t need the sun…Revelation 21:23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. That’s possible because everyone there has Holy Spirit living in them and there is no sin to block our view of God.

Earth will never be a sinless place, but we can still ‘see’ by the Light of God.  Imagine His radiance as He shines down on us, guiding us through the difficult path of life. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. We’re told in Hebrews 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith… We have the promise that if we will call on Him, He’ll light the way for us.

Yet the Psalmist admitted we ‘walk through the valley of the shadow of death.’  As long as we live on earth, we will experience dark/difficult times.  This world is sinful…but there is a ‘darkness’ that isn’t due to sin?  What if you call on God, trust Him completely, and still seem to be walking in darkness?

There are times when the ‘darkness’ is the shadow of His hands.  God is in Heaven, His glory shines down to light the way for us…but as He reaches down His hands to pull us up towards Him, we may be in the shadow of His hands for a while.

He may lead us through a difficult time to get where He wants us.  A sickness, job loss, loss of home…many tragedies/hardships in life seem dark at the time but are really shadows of Him reaching down to us.  Never leave His hands to avoid a ‘dark’ time in life…it’s only a shadow. Only in His hands will we ever be pulled up and kissed by the face of God.

How do we know if a ‘darkness’ is from sin or simply a shadow?  It really doesn’t matter.  Listen closely to Him and do what He says.  If the darkness is of sin, confession will help remove it.  If it is a shadow it will probably stay with us until His hands get us where He needs us to be.  Psalm 23:4 I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me…Your hand is there to protect/provide.  In His Hands is always the best place to be…shadow or not.
